Looking for a Tour Guide of Villa Barbaro in Maser?
Among the nearly four-thousand historical homes classified as Venetian Villas, Villa Maser is doubtless one of those that you can not miss to visit at least once in life! As a tour guide to Palladio's Villa Barbaro, I find it amazing!
A spectacular combination between a classical elegant architecture – but at the same time strictly functional – and an incredible fresco decoration inside. The frescoes open to illusionistic views with soft and luminous colours, landscapes and capriccios, myths, divinities and personalities of the time.
Palladio and Veronese
Andrea Palladio, great architect of the XVI century, and Paolo Caliari, called the Veronese, show here their resounding skills to the best! Everything completed with the stucco decoration and the statues by Alessandro Vittoria.
And here it is, a Unesco site that makes us understand the life of Venetian noble families in the past. They wanted to have a country house in the land out of Venice. A place dedicated to agriculture, a place surrounded by nature to be enjoyed with friends and guests. Spending time cheerfully discussing about cultural topics, probably with a glass of local good wine.
Wines of Villa di Maser
What about to visit Villa Barbaro with a local tour guide? Sometimes we can be welcome by the charming dogs living there, nice guardians of the villa: are they maybe the descendants of those dogs painted by Veronese? Notice the similarity on the frescoes!
Or we can meet people working on the vines, since Villa Maser is a winery. If you go to the close Casa Diamante, ancient farmhouse of the villa, you can taste its wine: Prosecco Docg, Incrocio Manzoni or Maserino?
A short walk can finally lead us to the Tempietto (little temple), the private little church designed by Palladio and once open to the inhabitants of Maser: they say Palladio died here even if now he is buried in his beloved Vicenza.
